Versalof is a family-owned business from Steenhuffel that specializes in the vacuum steaming of fresh vegetables. Since 2023, the company has been taken over by the 3 sons of the founders and they have based their future strategy on 3 pillars: the further development of their range of vacuum steamed vegetables, the sale of fresh chicory directly to the retail sector and the development of their patented vegetable based "Chicobite". Versalof sells to customers in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Luxembourg. It is mainly the quality of the vegetables and the service that Versalof provides to its customers that have ensured the growth of the company. Chicory is the company's specialty, with Versalof handling the entire process from seed to finished product in-house.
In 2021, Versalof won the "Trophée de l'innovation" at the food fair in Rennes (France) with its Chicobite: a 100% natural vegetable base, neutral in taste, white in color and rich in fiber. Chicobite has its origins in the transformation of the chicory root. The product has many benefits: it improves the nutriscore of the product in which it is used, it can form the basis of a 100% vegetarian/vegan product or it can be mixed with pork, beef, poultry or fish to create a hybrid product. This local ingredient improves the juiciness of the products in which it is processed and allows the manufacturer to improve its CO2 impact.
